Alexander Varvarenko, Varamar Shipping DMCC, SHIPNEXT: Four Relevant Institutions Formally Alerted
Four separate governance and ethical conduct notices were issued in one day to organisations linked either to SHIPNEXT’s investment environment or to the Antwerp maritime community.

Each organisation was contacted for a specific reason. Betatron Venture Group has been publicly associated with SHIPNEXT through investment and partnership activities. The other three recipients represent important parts of Antwerp’s maritime and business network, where Alexander Varvarenko, Varamar Shipping DMCC and SHIPNEXT have obtained professional visibility through sponsorship, event participation and industry engagement.
The notices concern an unresolved brokerage commission arising from the fixture of the M/V BOHWA AMOY.
Professional shipbroking work was completed in connection with the transaction. The broker’s direct involvement helped obtain a necessary laycan extension and prevented the fixture from being lost. According to the broker’s calculations, the preserved voyage produced approximately USD 50,000 in additional freight revenue for Varamar Shipping DMCC.
The related brokerage commission was not paid.
For approximately six weeks, Varamar representatives reportedly explained that payment was delayed because of a temporary shortage of corporate funds and repeatedly indicated that settlement would follow. Those assurances did not result in payment.
The supporting correspondence also includes a WhatsApp message in which Alexander Varvarenko, according to the broker’s documented position, purported to cancel the entire commission through a unilateral 100% deduction.
The broker further states that any possible payment was linked to the submission of a formal apology to Varamar Group, referred to in the correspondence as a “letter of repentance.”
The broker’s position is that neither condition was authorised by the contractual framework or by any agreed mechanism for resolving the dispute.
After information about the unpaid commission entered the public domain, Alexander Varvarenko and Varamar Shipping DMCC filed a civil claim in Ukraine seeking UAH 4,363,680, approximately USD 100,000, for alleged reputational and moral damage.
On 14 July 2026, the Solomianskyi District Court of Kyiv closed the civil proceedings on jurisdictional grounds without examining the merits of the claim.
The court determined that the dispute originated from commercial relations involving a maritime transaction and a brokerage commission. It therefore concluded that the matter did not belong within ordinary civil jurisdiction.
The court did not rule that the broker’s publications were false. It also awarded no compensation or damages against him.
The jurisdictional decision did not determine the underlying commission claim. The original commercial question therefore remains unresolved.
Betatron Venture Group was approached because SHIPNEXT has been publicly connected with its venture and partnership ecosystem.

Alexander Varvarenko, Varamar Shipping DMCC and SHIPNEXT have maintained a visible presence in this environment through sponsorship and participation in maritime events.
The three organisations were therefore asked to consider whether the reported circumstances are compatible with the professional and ethical standards expected from sponsors and prominent members of the European shipping community.
The four recipients were not asked to accept the broker’s account automatically.
They were asked to examine the available materials, which include:
Sending these notices does not mean that any of the recipients has opened an investigation, confirmed a breach or adopted the broker’s position.
It means that four organisations with relevant investment, maritime or governance interests have now been formally informed and given an opportunity to conduct their own review.
The essential issue remains unchanged: the brokerage commission earned in connection with the M/V BOHWA AMOY fixture is still unpaid.
