A dry bulk fixture starts with quantity and stowage factor: whether the parcel weighs out or cubes out in the holds, the moisture content of the commodity, and the load and discharge rates the terminals can hold against the laytime agreed.
Those figures, with the draft and air-draft limits of the ports, decide the size of vessel we look for and the freight level we can indicate.
We act as independent shipbrokers and do not own vessels.
Cargoes We Work With
- wheat, corn, barley and other grains;
- fertilizers and urea;
- coal and mineral cargoes;
- ores and concentrates;
- salt;
- bulk agricultural commodities;
- other dry bulk cargoes subject to vessel suitability.
Our Role
Our work may include vessel search, freight indications, fixture negotiations, charter party support, communication with involved parties and voyage follow-up from loading to discharge.
For grain cargoes, SYNACOMEX may be used as a contractual basis, depending on cargo, vessel, route and agreement between the parties.
Terms and Port Details We Clarify
Before indicating freight we confirm the commercial and port details that change the cost of the voyage:
- FIO, FIOS or FIOST — who pays for loading, stowing and trimming the cargo, and whether the commodity needs trimming at all;
- loading and discharging rates — the daily rates the terminals can actually maintain, which set the laytime;
- draft and berth restrictions — maximum draft, length and air draft at the berth, which limit the vessel size and the cargo intake;
- grabs and gear — whether the terminals work the cargo with their own equipment or the vessel must be geared and fitted with grabs;
- hold suitability — the hold condition and cleanliness the cargo requires, for example clean and dry holds for grain or fertilizers, and whether holds are inspected before loading.
Clear answers on these points let owners quote on firm terms and help avoid laytime and hold-cleaning disputes later in the voyage.
