Industrial equipment moves on its own figures: the dimensions and weight of every unit, the heaviest single lift, whether it rolls or has to be craned, and the packing and securing the voyage requires.

We work as independent shipbrokers, searching the international freight market for suitable vessels based on cargo dimensions, weight, number of units, loading method, route, laycan, port restrictions and prevailing market conditions.

Typical Cargoes

Cargoes may include:

  • construction machinery
  • excavators
  • wheel loaders
  • cranes and lifting equipment
  • agricultural machinery
  • industrial machinery
  • transformers and power-generation equipment
  • industrial plant components
  • other wheeled, heavy or oversized units

Vessel Chartering

Depending on cargo dimensions, quantity, weight and loading method, suitable tonnage may include:

  • multipurpose vessels
  • general cargo vessels
  • heavy-lift vessels
  • Ro-Ro vessels
  • Lo-Lo vessels
  • Ro-Lo vessels
  • geared vessels
  • other suitable specialised tonnage available through the international freight market

Final vessel selection depends on cargo specifications, loading and discharging ports, lifting requirements, ramp availability and capacity, vessel configuration, laycan and prevailing freight-market conditions.

Loading Methods

Depending on the cargo, vessel and terminal facilities, loading and discharging may be performed using:

  • roll-on/roll-off methods
  • lift-on/lift-off methods
  • the vessel’s own gear
  • shore cranes
  • heavy-lift cranes
  • other suitable methods agreed by the contractual principals

Accurate cargo dimensions, weights and lifting information are essential for assessing vessel suitability.

Our Work

Kiev Shipping Ltd assists clients with:

  • cargo and route reviews
  • searches for suitable vessels
  • freight indications
  • fixture negotiations
  • charter-party negotiations and coordination
  • laycan coordination
  • negotiation of loading and discharging terms
  • commercial assessment of vessel suitability
  • commercial voyage follow-up through completion of discharge
  • communication among charterers, shipowners and other parties involved in the fixture

Where required, we coordinate the exchange of technical cargo information among cargo interests, vessel owners, ports, terminals and appointed specialists.

Final cargo acceptance, lifting arrangements, stowage and securing plans, and technical suitability remain subject to confirmation by the vessel’s owners or operators, the relevant terminals and appointed specialists.

Stowage Details That Change the Freight

Two parcels of the same weight can need very different space on board. Before indicating freight we confirm:

  • dimensions and individual weights of every piece as packed, including the heaviest single lift;
  • lifting drawings showing the lifting points and the centre of gravity of every unit that is craned;
  • packing — crated, skidded, wrapped or bare — and any protection the equipment needs at sea;
  • deck or under-deck stowage — which units must travel in the hold and which may be carried on deck;
  • non-stackable status — pieces that cannot take other cargo on top occupy more space, which affects the freight calculation.

Information Required

For a freight indication, please send:

  • cargo name and description
  • number of units and total quantity
  • dimensions and weight of each unit
  • heaviest single lift
  • packing and securing requirements
  • loading port
  • discharging port
  • cargo ready date / laycan
  • loading and discharging terms
  • availability of shore cranes or the need for vessel gear
  • photos, technical drawings or a packing list, if applicable
  • special requirements or restrictions
